For the last two years, Mr Peter Heeres has been working in Hanoi. While being away from his family has been difficult, his apartment in the 90-unit serviced residence, Somerset West Lake, Hanoi, has helped to make the city feel more like home.

“I appreciate the excellent design which gives residents a view of the lake and this has contributed to the peaceful environment of the place. I really look forward to being ‘home’ particularly on weekends,” said Heeres.

Somerset West Lake is among the premier collection of Ascott International serviced residences in over 60 cities around the world and one of the most popular corporate housing for expatriates in Hanoi.

Service Par Excellence

What makes Somerset West Lake a cut above the rest is the fact that it combines the comforts of home with the conveniences of a hotel and tops it with impeccable service.

“We constantly upgrade our software through training of our staff. In addition, as our utmost priority is to provide a comfortable and safe living environment for our residents, we constantly garner feedback from our residents so that we can further improve our services and programmes,” said assistant residence manager, Pearlyn Tan.

Because of the emphasis on service with heart, at Somerset West Lake, no one need ever worry about the daily concerns of living. A 24-hour reception, café and a plethora of services including daily breakfast, housekeeping, grocery delivery, baby-sitting, laundry and dry cleaning, a doctor on call and a shuttle service to the civic and financial districts, all ensure that every need is taken care of.

It is such attention to details that residents of Somerset West Lake particularly appreciate. “I often fly to Europe because my family resides in The Netherlands. So when I am in Hanoi, the advantage of living in a serviced residence is that I can fully concentrate on my work,” said resident, Heeres.

And for the businessman, secretarial services at the serviced residence mean that you can work from home. And if you need to travel for work or fun, travel tour arrangements can be made conveniently over the concierge.

And the service doesn’t stop there. To help residents, most of whom are foreigners, assimilate into Vietnamese culture, monthly residents’ newsletters informing them of any local festivals or customs are published and distributed. The staff of Somerset West Lake also organise activities for the residents to make them feel at home, interact with their neighbours and make friends during their stay

“It is nice to meet the staff in quite a different context and to chat with them. Besides, there is nice food and good drinks at these events. The option to win prizes is also attractive,” said Heeres who attended the serviced residence anniversary party last December.

Residents with children can also freely participate in the many activities organised as they are also planned with kids-friendly games in mind.

“We enjoyed the parties, especially the Mid-Autumn Festival party and Halloween party,” said Mrs Fumi Yamashita who has been living at the Somerset West Lake for 5 months with her expatriate husband and their 2 children. “My daughter had fun in the games at the Halloween Party going to the various apartments in the serviced residence for trick-or-treats. It was a good opportunity to interact and get to know my fellow residents better.”

This year in October, Somerset West Lake will be organising special activities for residents to join in the local celebrations of the 1000 years anniversary of Hanoi, allowing residents to experience the local festivities.

Hugging the shores of the picturesque West Lake, Somerset West Lake offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of life with its landscaped gardens and open-air environment. Each of the 90 spacious apartments comes with a private balcony, terrace or compound private garden from which to enjoy the breathtaking waterfront view.

“The location of Somerset West Lake is good for my family as it is not noisy and it has a wonderful lake-view which my family enjoyed very much. The comfort attracted us to live here,” said Yamashita.

The residence also offers units of varying types and layouts, from studio to one, two and three-room apartments all immaculately decorated and fully furnished, ensuring a home for every individual need. Living areas have slated tiles and wooden floors while bedrooms are completely carpeted and kitchens come equipped with all the necessary appliances.

For leisure, residents can look forward to making a splash in the swimming pool or working out at the fully-equipped gymnasium. A children’s playground both indoors and out give the whole family something to do all the time.

Somerset West Lake is located just minutes away from Central Hanoi and its commercial, diplomatic and shopping districts. It is also near international schools and within walking distance to historical landmarks like ancient pagodas and grand palaces; and tourist sites like Ho Chi Minh Museum, Truc Bach Lake and Bach Thao Park.

The development is managed by Ascott International Management Vietnam, winner of the 2006 – 2009 Golden Dragon Award and 6-time consecutive winner of the prestigious Guide Award, which recognises excellence in tourism and hospitality, both conferred by the Vietnam Economic Times.

With such precision thought and planning that goes into making the executive family at home in Hanoi, it is little wonder that Somerset West Lake is the choice for corporates the world over.
