The Rising Of The Metropolis
The new development offers a "work in Shanghai, live in Suzhou" concept, appealing to those who lavish relish a quiet and modern retreat
Issue: Nov 2010
The Metropolis, strategically located in proximity to a wide range of amenities and the light rail transit, yields a good investment potential
It was a deal that doubled CapitaLand’s China property portfolio.
CapitaLand’s acquisition of Orient Overseas Developments Ltd (OODL), a Hong Kong incorporated holding company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Orient Overseas (International) Ltd in 1Q2010, added another seven property sites of 1.48 million square metres in Shanghai, Kunshan and Tianjin respectively to its portfolio. Half of these are slated for residential developments while the rest are designated spaces for offices, shopping malls and serviced residences.
The Metropolis, a high-end mixed development, is one of the projects from this acquired portfolio.
Situated in the Jiangsu province, The Metropolis has a location that is unique yet yields a good investment potential.
A stone’s throw away from the exciting Shanghai Auto City, The Metropolis is surrounded by possibly everything that will get your adrenalin racing: the Shanghai F1 circuit, the Shanghai Automobile Mall, the Automobile Museum, as well as the Auto Exhibition.
“We believe the investment value is good. By being so close to the Shanghai Auto City and with many international auto events being held here, more expatriates will be working and living here,” says Yang Lei, project manager of The Metropolis.
Need for Speed
Racing to other parts of China from The Metropolis will be convenient. There are several options to help connect you to major cities in China.
For one, the Light Rail Transit Line 11 station next to The Metropolis will get you to Shanghai very comfortably in a mere hour.
You may also opt to take China’s first high-speed train to Shanghai or even Beijing. It’s a shorter ride of 20 minutes to the city. This means you can connect easily with other train and subway lines as well. You can also travel by car. Its highway network and public transportation system are seamlessly connected.
A Town of its Own
The Metropolis, which spans some 600,000 square metres, is set to be an entire town on its own. This mixed development will have 21 high-rise blocks housing 4,700 residential units as well as 150,000 square metres of commercial, office and serviced apartment space.
“Out of the 150,000 square metres, we have planned for about 4,600 square metres of retail space to serve the residents. These shops will provide convenience and entertainment for those living in The Metropolis,” explains Yang.
Surrounding this new town are amenities that will add to the residents’ lifestyle.
“This area already has some famous hotels, like the Double Tree Hotel and a shopping mall which will be ready in 2012. Of course, the Shanghai Auto City also has many restaurants and shops so it’s really very convenient for the residents in terms of entertainment,” comments Yang.
Offering a “work in Shanghai, live in Suzhou” concept, retreating home to The Metropolis is a pleasant welcome after the hustle and bustle of city work life. Whether you choose to relax outdoors or indoors, there is something for everyone.
3,000 square metres of space has been set aside to provide residents with a wide range of facilities as well as quiet spaces of retreat.
The Metropolis offers lots of wide-open spaces as well as a full set of condominium facilities
The development comes with full condominium facilities: a swimming pool, sauna, exercise room, function room, library, café and more. You can also expect outdoor facilities such as tennis courts, an activity area for senior citizens, children’s playgrounds as well as a kindergarten to truly meet the varying needs of each resident at The Metropolis.
Further more, the landscape design by POD Design from the US creates a sense of luxury and noble living. You will be amazed by its New Modernism style, which connects all the individual green areas towards the centre garden area. The landscape design thus makes it possible for all the units to face the south and capture the beautiful greenery.
Luxurious Choice of Apartments
The living rooms have a spacious layout with natural light streaming in, making them cosy and comfortable to laze around all day
The layout of each unit is designed with space and light efficiency in mind. It allows every unit to fully embrace the gorgeous sunshine and incomparable view.
“The kitchen, toilets, bedrooms and living room will be brightly lit with natural light streaming into the apartment. For example, in the bedrooms, the bay windows protrude outward, allowing more sunlight to stream in. The master bedrooms and living room are also south-facing,” explains Yang.
The Metropolis will be offering two, three and four-bedroom apartments with varying sizes and layouts to satisfy the different needs of the buyers. The apartments will come equipped with modern furnishings.
Since its Phase One launch in June this year, 400 units of two and three- bedroom apartments have been snapped up. The sizes of these apartments range between 84 to 150 square metres.
The encouraging response is testament to the much-anticipated rise of The Metropolis.
