Freshwater Place set amid Melbourne’s Southbank
Life from the lofty heights of Freshwater Place is a perfect piece of heaven. At almost every turn breathtaking views of the Yarra River, the CBD, Port Phillip Bay and Melbourne’s famous parks and gardens surround you. By day, Melbourne city unfolds as far as the eye can see. By night, the twinkling lights of life below dazzle.
A Community Within A Complex
This riverfront, high-rise complex at the heart of Melbourne is positioned on the banks of the Yarra River between Crown Casino and Southgate and stands as a perfect example of inner-city living where work and play come together seamlessly. Freshwater Place is a complete community with a 59-storey residential tower adjoining Pricewaterhouse Coopers Tower, a 38-storey office building clad in glass for maximum transparency and designed as a sculptural crystalline form; and a vibrant public piazza all within. The recently completed addition of this complex - Twenty8, a 25-storey office tower, embraces the Freshwater Place Piazza and continues the elegant and world-class design of the first two towers of the complex.
Freshwater Place also comes with its own retail village that comprises a supermarket, pharmacy, news agent, liquor shop, post office, bakery and medical clinic all located on the ground floor for residents’ ease and convenience.
“The retail outlet and amenities at the basement of Freshwater Place are very important. Many of the other apartments we went to visit around Melbourne require you to get in the car to buy a litre of milk,” said residents, Janeta and James Grant.
A Site with History and Culture
This vertical vision of modern living has all the conveniences of city life cocooned in the tranquility of a waterfront environment. The area for which it is named has always been a significant part of Melbourne’s development because it marks the point where a series of small rapids separate the saline water of the lower Yarra from the fresh water upstream. Most of Melbourne’s early water supply was drawn from the area immediately above these rapids – hence the name, Freshwater Place.
This new integrated development, completed in phases since 2006 has re-established this area as a pivotal part of Melbourne’s city life and enhanced its reputation as the ideal place to live, work and play.
Just minutes’ walk away is Melbourne’s CBD and cultural, sporting and entertainment precincts. Residents can dine at an array of cafes and restaurants nearby, then take a stroll at the many parks and gardens in the vicinity or visit the Arts Centre precinct. Close to trains, trams and major freeway networks, commuting to and from the apartments is a breeze.
“We are quite proud of Freshwater Place, its position and being so close to the Yarra River. Living here, we are able to discover the real Melbourne just by walking in the vicinity, get to know all the nooks and crannies, like cafes in the back lanes,” said the Grants.
“We also love Southbank. I always feel safe to walk about at night around Southbank and all the restaurants and cafes means there is always a lively atmosphere in the area. That’s the beauty of Melbourne, there is always something happening.”
