Johnny (not his real name) was just into his teens when he began taking to the streets. He did not do it because he was wayward. He did not do it because he was playful. He did it because he could not stand listening to his parents screaming and shouting at each other all the time. In search of love, companionship and acceptance, he became easy target for gangs who recruited him and his friends. Only when he was arrested during a gang fight did he realise that his street family did not have his best interest at heart. Johnny got sent to The Salvation Army Gracehaven, Singapore. His is just one of several real life stories the organization shared

This festive season, CapitaLand has pledged to help children like “Johnny” through its e-greeting card programme. The S.E.N.D. (Send E-cards and Donate) For Hope programme is a creative worldwide initiative CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) started in 2009. With just a simple click, senders can spread festive cheer while saving the earth and helping the underprivileged children. It may seem like a small gesture but it brings great hope not only to the beneficiaries but also to the environment because e-cards are environmentally friendly.

Spend for a Good Cause

For every CapitaLand Kai Kai & Jia Jia e-greeting card sent from now till 31 December 2012, CHF, CapitaLand’s philanthropic arm, will donate S$2 to The Salvation Army Gracehaven.

The Salvation Army Gracehaven is a home for troubled youths and children who require care and protection from abuse or neglect. There, at-risk youths are given the rehabilitation, supervision, care and support they need in a safe, secure and loving environment. With a capacity to house 160, it mainly has children aged 10 to 16 living there.

The home provides counseling and guidance to these children, many of whom lack parental supervision. It also has academic programmes to help the children who have missed out on school because of bad experiences or neglect. Giving them a well-rounded education, The Salvation Army Gracehaven also offers sports and outdoor activities as well as music, drama and art classes. Their aim is to partner with parents to empower the children to cope and be resilient and eventually be reunited with their families and be reintegrated into the community.

Not only will the e-cards go to a good cause, it will also be eco-friendly because it is a paper-less way to bring good cheer. As the Presenting Sponsor and Conservation Donor of the 10-year Singapore-China Panda Collaborative Programme and a property developer with a Green focus, CapitaLand constantly aims to increase awareness about wildlife conservation and develop educational programmes to engage underprivileged children and encourage them to contribute towards biodiversity.

To show your support, log on to www.capitaland.com/cards or the CHF facebook page and send an electronic Christmas greeting to your business associates, friends, and family. You can choose a design, and personalise the card with your own well wishes. Let your season’s greetings help those in need and have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
