At the seventh Singapore Corporate Awards held in July, CapitaLand swept three golds and one bronze across two of the five awards, one of the biggest wins for any company this year.

CapitaLand Limited was accorded the Gold Award for Best Investor Relations (for Market Capitalisation of S$1 billion and above). CapitaMall Trust received two Gold Awards, one for Best Investor Relations (for REITSs & Business Trust) and the other for Best Annual Report (for REITs & Business Trusts).

Meanwhile, Ascott Residence Trust walked away with a Bronze Award for Best Annual Report (for REITs & Business Trusts).

“At CapitaLand, every effort is made to continuously raise the benchmark for good corporate governance. We believe that good corporate governance principles are the bedrock of a trusted and respected organisation. It is not only about putting in place a robust framework with sound and transparent policies and practices. More importantly, it’s about embracing them to meet our business needs for long-term sustainable growth, as well as protecting the interests of our stakeholders and enhancing shareholder value,” said Mr Liew Mun Leong, President and CEO of CapitaLand Group.

The Singapore Corporate Awards consists of five awards: Best Annual Report, Best Investor Relations, Best Chief Financial Officer, Best Chief Executive Officer and Best Managed Board Award. Organised by The Business Times and supported by Singapore Exchange with a series of partners, the Awards aim to honour SGX-listed companies and individuals who excel in corporate governance and shareholder communication. The annual event also presents valuable opportunity for the Chief Executive Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Directors and substantial shareholders of listed companies to network, socialise and share about good corporate governance. This year, 29 companies and seven individuals were awarded for taking the lead in corporate governance and disclosure practices to shareholders.

Impetus for Better Performance

Such recognition not only helps to boost the Group’s brand name and increase industry and investor confidence, it is also a tremendous encouragement for the many people in the company who strive to maintain transparency.

“The awards conferred are testament of our continued efforts. As a multi-geography, multi-sector real estate player, we will continue to build on raising the bar in good corporate governance to best align with international best practices as business environments evolve,” said Mr Liew.

This is not the first time CapitaLand has won at the Singapore Corporate Awards. In In 2007, then Chief Financial Officer, Mr Olivier Lim, was named CFO of the year while Mr Liew went home with the CEO of the Year Award (for firms with market value of S$500 million or more). CapitaLand is certainly no stranger to the podium position.
